THE UNPLANNED
Intro
About two weeks later, there would be a festival in Gemah Ripah village. The festival name was "Gede-gedenan", it was to find the biggest fruit or vegetable around the village. The requirement to join the festival was simple, all villagers could participate by planting the tree of the fruit or vegetable right from the first day of new year day and asked the festival committee to note it. The big main prize was the trigger for the villagers to participate. The prize was Rp.200.000.000,- plus the winner could get all the losers fruit and vegetable. The festival was a yearly event which usually held in the end of the year. Even though it was still in the middle of March, the villagers had predicted who would win it. All the villagers talked about Mr. Faridi's cucumber. No one knew why the cucumber that Mr. Faridi had planted was so massive in size. It was almost three meters long and a meter wide. The cucumber kept growing from two months ago when "Gede-gedenan" festival started.
On the other occasion, Indonesian National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) found out an alien mother-ship above the Earth. The news of that phenomenon spread across the countries. But not where Mr. Faridi lived. Since it did not had relevancy with villagers' everyday life, the news was not bothering the neighborhood where Mr. Faridi lived. It was not that the news did not get there. The news spread quickly to the villagers via television and newspaper. Actually, they also worried about it, but what could they do? Even most of them didn't know what alien is.
If the society around the globe worried about the alien mother-ship, what bothered the villagers was Mr. Faridi's cucumber. They were afraid if they lost the competition against Mr. Faridi.
Pas was Mr. Faridi's son and he might be the only villager who didn't think of his father's cucumber. Pas who was a college student had different way of thinking with the rest of his neighborhood. He was more open minded. Just like that news, everybody thought it was such a waste to think about it, but Pas didn't think so. As someone who had stayed in the city, his mind was broaden up.
What he thought was that the news meant two things, whether it would be a big discovery or a big disaster for human being.
